Koh Dong-jin: “The 52-hour workweek exemption in the Honam mega special zone law may violate the Constitution”

A constitutional dispute has emerged over the government's and Democratic Party's plan to apply a 52-hour workweek exception only to semiconductor complexes in Honam.

Rep. Koh Dong-jin of the People Power Party said giving different work-hour rules to the same semiconductor R&D workers by region is arbitrary discrimination.

He argued the measure could violate the constitutional principle of equality and the freedom of corporate management.

The issue could shape the direction of the Honam mega-special zone bill and the semiconductor special act, as well as workforce rules for companies.
