FDA Approves New Oral Weight Loss Pill Foundayo — Here’s What To Know

The FDA approved Foundayo, a once-daily oral medication for adults with obesity or overweight with related conditions; it was developed by Eli Lilly.

Foundayo is the second oral GLP-1 therapy for obesity, marking a shift from previously injectable-only drugs like zepbound and semaglutide (wegovy).

Its active ingredient, orforglipron, is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that slows gastric emptying, increases fullness, and reduces cravings.

Unlike oral wegovy (a modified protein requiring special absorption and a 30‑minute post-dose fast), Foundayo is a small molecule stable in the stomach and can be taken with or without food, which may improve adherence.

In trials the highest Foundayo dose produced 12.4% body-weight loss at 72 weeks (less than the 15–21% reported for injectable zepbound/wegovy); Foundayo also reduced non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and systolic blood pressure; no head-to-head trial versus oral wegovy exists.
