Scientists cloned a mouse for 58 generations and observed fatal decline

A Japanese team recloned a female mouse across 58 generations and produced over 1,200 clones.

Clones began showing reduced fertility and survival after generation 27, with 0% survival by generation 58.

Genetic sequencing showed accelerated accumulation of mutations, including loss of an X chromosome in some clones.
