“Came to study abroad? Then pay more?” Trump floats a $100,000 fee for foreign workers

The Trump administration is internally reviewing a plan to impose up to $100,000 in fees on foreign students working in the U.S. through OPT after graduation.

The move appears to shift scrutiny earlier in the pipeline after court challenges blocked an attempt to raise H-1B visa fees.

The proposal is still under review at the Department of Homeland Security, and the covered parties and payer have not been finalized.

If implemented, it could make U.S. study less attractive and hurt universities, Silicon Valley firms, and Wall Street employers that rely on global talent.
