Elon Musk’s Orbital Data Centers Are Staggeringly Huge

Elon Musk outlined plans for up to one million solar-powered orbital data-center satellites to supply AI compute.

He showed a rendering of a “mini” satellite that the company says would be larger than Starship and longer than the ISS.

Musk announced a $20 billion chip factory called Terafab that he says would make up to 200 billion AI or memory chips per year.

Astronomers and outlets warned the constellation could hurt astronomy, and Ars Technica estimated deployment costs above $1 trillion.
