Valve sued by PRS in UK over unlicensed music distribution via Steam games

UK rights group PRS has sued Valve, alleging Steam distributes music in games without permission.

PRS says Valve never obtained licenses to distribute games containing music by PRS members and sought licensing for years.

PRS notes the UK requires separate online licenses such as GEOL for games with music and gave examples of affected titles.

PRS also provided examples of other licensing fees for non-game uses such as small offices.

The lawsuit follows PRS's claim that it did not receive appropriate engagement from Valve on licensing requests.
