The move signals Intel is likely optimizing for supply and cost over peak bandwidth on its Xe3P-based AI chip.

That could make Crescent Island easier to deploy in air-cooled servers, but potentially less competitive than HBM-based rivals like Nvidia H200 NVL and AMD MI350P.
