World-first submarine drone travels 1,257 miles underwater on hydrogen power

Cellula Robotics’ Envoy autonomous underwater vehicle stayed fully submerged for 385 hours and traveled more than 1,257 miles, setting a new endurance benchmark.

The mission used hydrogen fuel cells from Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen and surpassed the vehicle’s published performance specifications.

The result shows hydrogen power can greatly extend subsea drone range beyond battery-only systems.

That could improve offshore monitoring, inspection, and other long-range underwater operations.
