Sony Wants TSMC's Help To Make Image Sensors

Sony is planning a joint venture with TSMC in Japan to develop next-generation image sensors.

The project is expected to center on Sony’s new facility in Koshi City and combine Sony’s sensor expertise with TSMC’s manufacturing strength.

Both companies are seeking Japanese government support for the venture.

The move supports CEO Hiroki Totoki’s push to make Sony more fab-light and less dependent on owned factories.
