Ukraine had been watching Russian FAB bombs fall on its cities for months. Its new “Equalizer” bomb explains how the war has changed

Ukraine has finished testing its first homegrown glide bomb, Vyrivniuvach (“Equalizer”), and placed an initial order.

The weapon is meant to be a low-cost alternative to Western kits like JDAM-ER and Hammer, with faster production and easier fielding.

It is compatible with several aircraft, including Su-24s, MiG-29s, Su-27s, F-16s and Mirage 2000s.

The move is a response to Russia’s heavy use of FAB glide bombs, which have battered Ukrainian positions and cities.
